Tim Taylor opened his Jeep soft top store/ businesss 1987 while in University as TGTaylor Mfg. Phone call after phone call people asked if this was the place that makes those California Tops. Then he began answering the phone as CALIFORNIA TOPS.

Tim is a normal guy who took a liking to Jeeps from a young age growing up in a NEW YORK small town on an English horse riding business.

As a teenager moving to CANADA he bought his first JEEP CJ5 1981 LAREDO black and drove it to college. Then opening up his store and studied on his front counter while other students chose student loans. And he exploded the city of EDMONTON with wild and crazy coloured tops, 100s of printed designs plastered the city to get that cash. Literally 20+ Jeep people lined up at his counter for his top!! I was there. EVERYWHERE YOU LOOKED TIM'S MARK WAS THERE, 100s OF YJs, TJs, CJs, JKs, JLUs with weird tops, colourful mismatched NATIVE seatcovers. People from USA would drive up to see him and his store and people from BC, MANITOBA, etc. would take the trip too. Then the parts manager of the largest Jeep dealership said to Tim, we sell our tops for $2400 and make $150,000 each summer and now with you here, we made nothing. You sell your tops for $300 and install them free. Why don't you leave the city and hide before we lawyer up. Tim said, Sorry about that.

Every human being everywhere knew who Tim was, the Jeep top guy! Approaching the city on the highway, LOOK there goes a purple top Jeep. Oh look a yellow top with black stripes like a bee, at the gas pumps! I saw that. Tim lives here.
